  • Do you need to book tickets online to visit Gaudi's properties?
  • You are able to purchase tickets on the day at the property, however, depending on time of the year, you may encounter queues as they are very popular attractions. We therefore suggest you book tickets online as it can save you a lot of time!
  • Can I visit all 3 properties in one day?
  • Yes, that is quite easy to do. Casa Milà & Casa Batlló are both on the same road, Passeig de Gràcia, so within walking distance of each other and Casa Vicens is only around 2km away on Carrer de les Carolines, so you can definitely visit all 3 on one day!
  • Are Gaudi's properties worth visiting?
  • We definitely think so, yes. They are so unusual and it’s unlikely you've seen anything like them before, unless of course you have visited other Gaudi properties! They are some of Barcelona's most popular attractions, which speaks volumes.
  • Is Casa Batlló privately owned?
  • Yes, the Bernat family purchased Casa Batlló in the 1990s and have owned it ever since.
  • Who designed Casa Batlló?
  • Casa Batlló was designed by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, who was also responsible for other famous landmarks in Barcelona such as Sagrada Familia and Casa Mila!

Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and Casa Vicens Fun Facts

  • Passeig de Gràcia: Casa Batlló & La Pedrera were both built on Passeig de Gràcia because it was a fashionable place to be seen!
  • Original Design: Casa Batlló was actually originally designed by Gaudi's architectural professor!
  • Council Guidelines: Gaudi didn't follow council guidelines when he built Casa Milà and had to fight them! It was only when fully completed the council allowed it saying it was "a monument in nature" and on that basis, it didn't need to adhere to bylaws!
  • A Lot to See: Casa Milà has around 150 windows!
  • Renovations: Casa Milà was falling into disrepair until UNESCO rescued it in 1984 and renovated it.
  • UNESCO: All 3 properties are UNESCO World Heritage Sites under the Works of Gaudi collection.
  • 2017: Casa Vicens didn’t actually open to the public until 2017.
  • Morabanc: Casa Vicens is now owned by an Andorran bank!
  • Final Project: Casa Milà was Gaudí’s last civil work before dedicating himself fully to the Sagrada Família.
  • Colour: Gaudí planned for Casa Milà to be painted in various colours, but this was never realised.
  • Terrace: Casa Milà’s rooftop terrace is considered one of Gaudí’s most surreal creations.
  • Flexibility: The building’s apartments are designed so walls can be moved, offering flexible floor plans.
  • Star Wars: It’s suggested that some of the chimney sculptures inspired Star Wars’ stormtrooper helmets.
  • Design Failure: The Milà family initially disapproved of the final design but grew to appreciate it!
  • House of Bones: Casa Batlló façade resembles bones and skulls, earning it the nickname “House of Bones.”
  • No Angles: Casa Batlló’s interior has almost no right angles.
  • Air-Conditioning: Casa Batlló has an intricate ventilation system that uses natural air circulation.
