The Albertina Museum in Vienna is one of the most renowned art museums in Austria, combining centuries of art history with a focus on modern and contemporary works.
The museum plays a significant part in the city's cultural history as it's housed in a grand neoclassical palace which was originally a Habsburg residence (one of the noble and ruling families of Austria). The museum has an extensive collection that spans the Middle Ages all the way through to present day pieces. The collection includes drawings, prints, and photographs, and has one of the largest and most significant print rooms in the world.
The property itself was designed by Emperor Franz Joseph in the 19th century and is a blend of classical architecture and modern design. The museum’s entrance is a modern addition in the Soravia Wing, which contrasts with the palace's traditional facade. The rooftop terrace of the palace also offers amazing views of the city.
The museum’s core collection is extensive and includes works from great masters such as Dürer, Michelangelo, Rubens, Monet, Degas, and Picasso. It also features 20th-century and contemporary art by artists like Warhol, Basquiat, and Klimt.
In addition to its permanent exhibits, the Albertina also frequently hosts temporary exhibitions which feature internationally acclaimed modern and contemporary artists. The exhibitions constantly rotate, offering something new to enjoy for those that visit frequently.
