About Barcelona Aquarium

Barcelona Aquarium, officially known as 'L'Aquarium de Barcelona', is a must-visit destination for all to enjoy. Opened in 1995, it proudly holds the title of the largest Mediterranean-themed aquarium in the world.

One of the aquarium’s most spectacular features is the 80-meter-long glass tunnel, where visitors can walk through and be surrounded by sharks, eels, stingrays, and other marine life!

The aquarium is set up in various aquatic habitats, including:

  • The Mediterranean ecosystems
  • The warm Tropical Seas of the Caribbean
  • Planeta Aqua, which shows how various creatures adapt to changing ecosystems.
  • Explora! Children's Area, where they can learn about various marine animals with touch and interactive elements.
  • In total, the aquarium is home to around 11,000 animals from over 400 different species.

Penguins, a favourite among many visitors, are also part of the aquarium’s diverse inhabitants. They are typically fed around 11:30 and 16:30, so try to catch one of these feeding sessions if you can!

  • By Car: Ronda Litoral, exits 21 and 22 (Parking is available at Parking Indigo C. C Maremagnum. A special price of €14 for 12 hours but its important you ask for it on arrival and not on departure.
  • By Metro: The L4 line Barceloneta or L3 line Drassanes
  • By Bus: V17, 47, 59, 120, D20, H14, V13, V15 and V19
  • Tourist Bus/Bus Turistic: Parada Port Vell (on the red route)
  • Barcelona City Tours Bus: Port Vell (East Route) stop
  • Train: A Renfe Combined Ticket is required
