Discover the history of human culture told through footwear!
The Bata Shoe Museum shows a fascinating history into the world of shoes. From their origins to how they are now a major part of fashion. The museum’s collection includes around 15,000 objects relating to footwear, including footwear and other related items and artefacts.
The collection shows how style has changed over the years and how it’s gone from functional to fashionable. It makes you realise just how much thought goes into our shoes, from the point of view of your style to the materials they are made of.
The collection was started by Sonja Bata due to her passion for shoes. The collection has grown over time and now shows how different cultures are represented by different styles and footwear.
The collection includes Chinese bound-foot shoes, ancient Egyptian sandals, clogs and modern glamorous heels and platforms as well as examples of how modern fashion houses now partner with sportswear brands to create collaborations.
A truly fascinating museum that looks into 4500 years of footwear. Definitely worth a visit.
