See beneath the skin of the human body
BODY WORLDS Berlin offers an unparalleled journey into human anatomy through real human bodies which have been preserved via the incredible plastination process, a technique developed by Dr. Gunther von Hagens.
The BODY WORLDS Berlin's mission is to educate about the intricacies of the human body, emphasizing health, anatomy, and physiology and how these factors impact the body.
There are over 200 unique 'plastinates' in the museum that reveal the complexities of our body and the systems that run them. The exhibits are organized thematically, covering the musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems. They are presented in this manner as it allows for a comprehensive understanding of how the body systems interact with each other to sustain life.
One of the highlights of the museum is "FR:EIA" (Fascia Revealed: Educating Interconnected Anatomy), which is the world's first 3D representation of the human fascial network. The exhibit provides a fascinating insight into the connective tissues that play a crucial role in movement and stability!
You can also see how common diseases impact the body as well as illustrating how lifestyle choices impact our health. This is designed to educate in order to help us reflect on our own bodies and promote preventive healthcare.
BODY WORLDS Berlin also offers a free audio tour available in English and German which you can access using your smartphones via the museum's complimentary Wi-Fi.
BODY WORLDS Berlin is not only an educational experience but also a profound exploration of what it means to be human. By allowing you to delve beneath the skin and see first hand, it means you can gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity and beauty of the human form.
If you haven't been to BODY WORLDS before, we can't recommend it enough. It really is truly fascinating, in our opinion.
