The Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection is owned by the French billionaire businessman François Pinault, and is set up to show his extensive art collection which includes works spanning various periods and styles, which he has acquired over a 40 year period.
The historic building was originally constructed in the 18th century as a commodities exchange and over the years it has had multiple transformations and served various functions including as a grain market and a stock exchange.
In 2016, François Pinault bought the building with the intention of converting it into a museum to house his private art collection. He then commissioned famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando to lead the renovation and transformation into a museum space.
Ando's design blends the building's historical elements with modern architectural methods and has created a unique and visually striking environment for displaying and enjoying the art.
The Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection now acts as a cultural hub in the city and attracts art lovers from around the world to enjoy its diverse collection of contemporary and modern art.
