About Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher sit on the western coast of Ireland in County Clare and are one of the country’s most iconic natural landmarks and a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, hiking fans and photographers, in our opinion!

The cliffs are part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher ‘UNESCO Global Geopark’, which is known for its unique geological and ecological significance. They rise dramatically up to 214 metres (702 feet) at their highest point and span about 14 kilometres (8.7 miles) along the Atlantic coast. On clear days, you can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, and even as far as the Maumturk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the south!

They have a viewing platform called 'O’Brien’s Tower' which was built in 1835 by Cornelius O’Brien in order that all could enjoy the incredible views the platform offers. It’s located at the midpoint of the cliffs and offers amazing panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

The cliffs also has a visitor centre located in an eco-friendly building which was designed to blend into the hillside and features interactive exhibitions about the cliffs’ geology, history, and wildlife as well as a café and gift shop.

The Cliffs Walking Trails

  • The Cliff Walk: Is a well-maintained path with several viewpoints.
  • The Coastal Walk: This walk extends further for those seeking a longer hiking experience.

Wildlife

  • The cliffs are a haven for seabirds, including puffins, razorbills, guillemots, and kittiwakes.
  • Marine life includes seals, dolphins, and basking sharks are also often visible from the cliffs!

Best Time to Visit The Cliffs of Moher

  • Spring and Summer (April–September): Are ideal times to visit due to the more pleasant weather and great for puffin spotting!
  • Sunrise or Sunset: Also offer amazing views and often smaller crowds.
  • Arrive Early or Late: To avoid crowds, especially during peak tourist seasons.

Visiting the Cliffs of Moher is an unforgettable experience, offering amazing natural beauty, rich wildlife, and a deep sense of Ireland's rugged charm! You won’t regret it!
