About Exploratorium

The Exploratorium at Pier 15 in San Francisco is a family friendly interactive science museum which is dedicated to hands-on learning and exploration in a fun way!

The museum blends science, art, and human perception via dozens of exhibits that invite you to touch, experiment, and experience! The Exploratorium was founded by physicist Frank Oppenheimer (brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer of Manhattan Project fame), and its aim is to transform learning through curiosity and exploration and encourages you to get involved and most importantly, have fun!

Popular Exhibits At The Museum Include

  • Tactile Dome: Where you have to navigate through a dark maze purely by touch!
  • Distorted Room: Where illusions make people appear larger or smaller than they really are!
  • Fog Bridge: An outdoor installation between two piers that envelops you in a mystical, foggy cloud!
  • Cafe Wall Illusion: Are the tiles crooked or straight!?
  • Tornado: Step into a special indoor version of a powerful natural vortex. 
  • Freezing: Watch water freeze and see how it changes!
  • Sunlight Painting: See how light changes colour!
  • Oversized Mirrors: Have fun at the distorted mirrors!
  • Eggs: Use a microscope to see zebrafish eggs in detail!
  • Earthquake: Make a miniature earthquake and see how it moves the seismograph!

Exploratorium Thursdays - ADULTS ONLY (18+)

Visit the Exploratorium on Thursdays from 6PM until 10PM for fun at the weekly adults only events! Grab your friends, start with a drink at the bar, chill with the live music and then have fun with the interactive displays, including the pitch-black dome!
