About Keukenhof

Sitting just outside of Amsterdam is the beautiful village of Lisse that is home to the Keukenhof Castle estate which is where the annual Keukenhof Gardens Tulip Festival takes place each year on 79-acres of the castle’s estate.

Keukenhof comes to life during the spring of each year with blankets of colour as more than 7 million bulbs that are planted annually for the tulip festival start to bloom in spectacular harmony and create amazing displays of beauty that are referred to by flower growers as their “living catalogue.” that helps them to show of their product range to flower buyers from around the world.

The annual Keukenhof Tulip Festival began in 1950, when a group of local flower growers and entrepreneurs collaborated to showcase their finest blooms. The annual flower show opened its doors to the public and was met with instant success and cemented its place as a world-renowned destination!

Keukenhof now welcomes over a million visitors each year, affectionately earning its title as the ‘Garden of Europe.’ Open from mid-March to mid-May, Keukenhof attracts flower enthusiasts from across the world that are drawn by the extraordinary displays that are crafted by talented gardeners and growers.

The bulbs are meticulously arranged by colour, size, and height in order to create the incredible displays and patterns and to ensure a constant bloom throughout Keukenhof's brief open season. The gardeners plant the bulbs in succession starting in the October of the year before to try and ensure the constant bloom.

Whilst the tulips do dominate the landscape, Keukenhof does also showcase a variety of other flowers and plants including crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and others to add to the charm.

A visit to Keukenhof is a cherished tradition for families and flower lovers alike. A day filled with beauty, inspiration, and joy. It’s no wonder people travel from far and wide to experience the magic of the annual floral festival and a lot come back year after year!
