About Lagos Zoo

Lagos Zoo, or to give it its full title ‘Parque Zoológico de Lagos’, is a small but fantastic zoo in the Algarve.

The zoo is home to over 150 species spread over around 48 different enclosures which include mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

Some of the star attractions include the pygmy hippopotamus, lemurs and monkeys. The zoo doesn't have big cats like lions and tigers, but they do have some slightly smaller ones including Lynx and Bobcats, as well as the huge variety of exotic birds.

The zoo habitats include:
  • Aviaries: There are several aviaries at the zoo where you can see a wide variety of bird species, including parrots, toucans, and flamingos and many more. Some of the most beautifully coloured birds you have ever seen.
  • Reptile House: The reptile house is home to snakes, lizards, dwarf crocodiles, terrapins, tortoises and other reptiles!
  • Primate Enclosures: The zoo has special areas dedicated to different primate species, offering a chance to observe their behaviours and interactions. The primates include guereza, gibbons, lemurs, spider monkeys, capuchins and many more!
  • Petting Zoo: A favourite amongst the younger visitors - the petting zoo area allows you to interact with and feed some of the farm yard animals like goats, sheep, and rabbits!

Animal Feeding

The zoo feeds the animals at set times each day, if you would like to see it! Some of the most popular feeding times are:

  • Pelicans - 11:30AM
  • Otters/Primates/Pelicans - 16:00
  • Lemurs - 11:45AM & 16:00 (you can book onsite to feed the Lemurs - extra cost involved)

Lagos Zoo also has a swimming pool that visitors can take advantage of, so don't forget to bring your swimming costumes!
