About Flamenco Shows in Madrid

Flamenco in Madrid is a vibrant and integral part of the city's cultural scene. Whilst the origins of flamenco are rooted in Andalusia, Madrid has become a major hub for this passionate and expressive art form, which combines singing (cante), guitar playing (toque), dance (baile), and rhythmic clapping (palmas).

As its roots have spread through the city, Madrid has become home to numerous 'tablaos', which are the venues that are dedicated to flamenco performances. They offer intimate settings with close-up performances of the dancers, singers, and musicians to ensure the audience can appreciate it and feel the energy.

Some of the Madrid's most famous tablaos include:

Corral de la Morería

This is one of the oldest and most renowned tablaos, an award winning tablao known for its high-quality performances and history of attracting famous artists and guest’s including Salvador Dali. The venue was also named best flamenco venue in the world by Spain’s most prestigious flamenco magazine as well as being in the New York Times’ 1000 places to see before you die. With those accolades, you know it’s going to be impressive!

Tablao Torres Bermejas

The Tablao Torres Bermejas is another famous Madrid flamenco location. They say as you walk through the door, you are transported to flamenco’s origins in Andalusia, as you step into a recreation of the Alhambra in Granada!

Flamenco de Leones Madrid

Another intimate venue, Flamenco de Leones Madrid takes the art seriously. Covering multiple styles of flamenco, including blending traditional folk dance with more modern takes on the art. Visitors to this tablao get to enjoy food along with the performance. The set has been designed by the prestigious Jouin Mankú studio along with artwork by Iván Floro, and murals by Sergio Mora, which all adds to the ambience of the location and makes Flamenco de Leones a fierce contender as a serious tablao!

Café Ziryab Flamenco

Café Ziryab offers a performance whilst surrounded by UNESCO-listed art of Flamenco. Their performance is divided into two sections, with a break between the two, which gives you time to have a drink and a snack. The space is still intimate to allow you to feel the passion and enjoy the performance.

Essential Tablao Madrid

Essential Tablao Madrid offers another authentic experience but in a cave-like setting with a maximum capacity of around 70-people, so you know it will be intimate. As it’s in a cave-like setting, they use the natural acoustics and don’t use microphones or speakers, but the acoustics of the room work incredibly well. The show includes dance, music and passion.

Festivals

If you are a flamenco fan, Madrid also now hosts several flamenco festivals throughout the year which attract top artists from around the world, which also goes to show how important the art has become to the city.

Suma Flamenca: An annual festival that features a diverse range of flamenco performances, including traditional and contemporary styles.

Festival Flamenco Madrid: Another major event showcasing a wide array of flamenco talent.

Madrid's flamenco scene is not just about traditional performances though, it also influences other musical genres and contemporary dance forms, fusing styles that blend flamenco with jazz, rock, and other genres are quite popular.

It’s more than just entertainment; Flamenco is a significant cultural expression that reflects the city's diverse influences and rich history and it continues to evolve while staying true to its roots, making it an important part of Madrid's artistic landscape.
