About Madurodam

Madurodam, The Hague's miniature world! Explore some of the country's favourite landmarks and cultural heritage sites but in miniature!

Madurodam has meticulously crafted scale models (1:25 in size) of cities, buildings, and iconic structures from across The Netherlands, and has created a miniature world that captures their essence!

You can walk around and learn about history, Dutch culture and famous landmarks in a fun way as they can link it directly to the miniature scaled version on show!

The park is split into various sections to explore and enjoy:

  • The Dutch Masters (De Hollandse Meesters): Enjoy art from some of the Dutch masters, but with a twist, as it’s an immersive experience! For example, why not swing on giant pearl earrings as you admire the ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’! Or, dance amongst tulips as you see works by Judith Leyster!
  • The Flying Dutchman: Board one of the last Dakota planes as you learn about the pioneers of the Dutch skies! Enjoy the flight!
  • Waterwolf: A fun indoor attraction where you can learn about how the Dutch transformed water into land, which helped to make The Netherlands what they are today!
  • Niew Amsterdam: Travel back in time to 17th century Niew Amsterdam (which was actually in New York City!) - we won’t give it away though! You will have to visit to learn about it!
  • The Court of The Netherlands: Learn about and understand how the legal foundations for The Netherlands were laid in 1572 at the First Assembly of the Free States in the Hall of States, Dordrecht, during the Dutch Revolt, in a fun way!
  • George Maduro: Learn about the war hero, George Maduro and just why Madurodam has been named after him!
  • Miniature Railway: Train enthusiasts will love this section! Incredibly intricate versions of Rotterdam, Utrecht and Groningen Centraal Stations. Watch the trains move seamlessly on the track and enjoy the detail that has been included!
  • Madurodam Airport: A fantastic miniature version of Schiphol Airport, proudly showing off its fleet of KLM planes in this mega-miniature section!
  • Generate Electricity: Generate electricity using the wind machines and turbines! Adjust them, move them, and get them to generate electricity that The Netherlands can use! Don’t forget to find the incredible miniature versions of the windmills and Kinderdijk in this section.
  • Water Fun: Here you can see how water and its power has helped The Netherlands, and why it’s so important to the country. Enjoy the hands-on experiments that show you just how it can be used, such as the Oosterschelde barrier. Will you be able to close it to save The Netherlands! You can also find out why Hansje Brinker is so important to the country and how he stopped the country from being flooded with just his finger!
  • Cheese: Madurodam wouldn’t be complete without a cheese section! Find out why cheese is so important to the country and how and where it’s made. You can even weigh yourself in cheese here!
  • Discover Amsterdam: See miniature versions of Amsterdam landmarks in this section, including The Royal Palace on Dam Square, as well as the famous canal houses and the Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank’s house. If it’s an Amsterdam landmark, you will likely see it in this impressive section.
  • Fairground: One of the smallest fairgrounds you will ever see! It includes carousels, roller coasters, a 'giant-miniature' ferris wheel and bumper cars! But not just sitting still, all active and moving as they should!
  • Kids Play Areas: Madurodam has also included play zones for children to help them enjoy the day.

Madurodam isn't just a tourist attraction but a place where history, culture, and technological achievements of the Netherlands are brought to life in a way that’s fun as well as educational. Whether you’re interested in architecture, history, or just looking for a fun day out, Madurodam offers something for everyone. Plus, its compact size makes it easy to explore within a few hours, so it’s a great way to entertain the children! Having said that - they won’t want to leave as they can play with so much water there!
