About Mestalla Stadium Tour

Mestalla Stadium, officially known as 'Estadio de Mestalla', is one of the most iconic football stadiums in Spain and home to Valencia Club de Fútbol, or Valencia FC for short. The stadium opened in 1923 with a capacity of just 17,000 and its expanded over the years and now stands at 49,430.

Fans can experience the 'Mestalla Forever' tour and immerse yourself in the rich history of Valencia's iconic Estadio de Mestalla. Guided by an expert fluent in both English and Spanish, you can explore the club museum which will uncover the stories behind Valencia CF's most triumphant matches as well as seeing memorabilia that was worn by players both past and present.

During the tour you get the chance to sit in the manager's touchline seat as well as snapping photos at the edge of the pitch, and venture into the players' locker room to soak up the atmosphere in there. Feel the excitement of standing where the legends of 'Los Ches' once stood, and imagine the weekly thrill of wearing their kit.

The tour guide will also tell stories of the club's journey from its formation in 1919 to its present-day successes. You will also get to see the trophy cabinet and the grass-stained jerseys from bygone eras, and see treasured artifacts belonging to legendary footballers.

The stadium tour offers a unique, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the heart and soul of Valencia CF. A must for football fans!

  • War-Time Service: During the Spanish Civil War, Mestalla was used as a concentration camp and storage depot for military vehicles. It sustained heavy damage, and it took years of repairs before Valencia CF could return to play there in 1941.
  • Nickname - "The Cathedral": Mestalla is often called "La Catedral del Fútbol" (The Cathedral of Football) due to its historical significance and intense atmosphere. Its towering, steep stands make it an intimidating venue for visiting teams.
  • The Steepest Stands: Mestalla is famous for having some of the steepest stands in European football, creating a unique and intense experience for both fans and players. This steep design amplifies the sound, making it an especially loud and lively stadium.
  • Home of the "Murciélago" (Bat): Valencia’s mascot and symbol is a bat, which you can see in various places around Mestalla, including the club's crest. The bat is also a historical emblem of the city of Valencia, symbolising luck and prosperity!
  • A Never-Completed Successor: Valencia CF started construction on a new stadium, Nou Mestalla, in 2007. However, financial issues stopped construction, and Mestalla remains the club's home. Plans to finish Nou Mestalla are still discussed, but it’s been over a decade with no completion date in sight!
