About The Murano Glass Museum

Did you know that for 'Murano Glass' to be authentic 'Murano Glass' it needs to be made on Murano Island in Venice. If it isn’t made there, it isn’t authentic Murano Glass!

Murano Glass, if you haven't seen it is colourful and often contains gold or silver specks. The expert glass makers use various different minerals to create the unique colourful pieces and effects and often layer colours.

Ironically, it’s the wonderful imperfections in the process and products that make Murano Glass unique and what it is. Expert craftsmen that make all products by hand and don’t use machinery or exact measurements to create their products and with that process, comes beautiful imperfections and why you will rarely find two pieces the same, they may look similar, but they will never match, making each piece unique!

Some glassware manufacturers use exotic wording with their products such as “vetro eseguito secondo la tecnica dei maestri di Murano” just know this is not Murano Glassware. This only translates to “glass created following the technique of Murano masters”, which means it’s not true Murano. Only glassware made on Murano Island is true Murano Glass and works of art!

We offer a trip around a wonderful Murano Glass Museum in the equally impressive Palazzo Giustunian, that is a Gothic-style Palace on the island and the museum covers the 1000+year history of glassmaking in Murano as well as showing you some of the incredible works that were created between the 15th and 20th centuries, including world-famous Murano masterpieces. You can even watch the master glaziers practising their craft!
