The museum is located in the famous former 'Gare d’Orsay', a Beaux-Arts railway station that was built between 1898 and 1900 but was converted into a museum and opened to the public in 1986 and has since become one of Paris’ most popular museums.

The museums collection includes:

  • "Olympia" by Édouard Manet
  • "The Luncheon on the Grass" by Édouard Manet

  • "Bal du moulin de la Galette" by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
  • "Whistler's Mother" by James McNeill Whistler
  • "The Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette" by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
  • "The Card Players" by Paul Cézanne
  • "The Gleaners" by Jean-François Millet
  • "The Birth of Venus" by Alexandre Cabanel
  • "The Bedroom" by Vincent van Gogh

The collection includes a diverse range of works that spans:

  • Paintings
  • Sculptures
  • Decorative Arts
  • Photography
  • Furniture

The museum concentrates on pieces from the period of 1848 - 1914, which encompasses the significant artistic movements such as Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Art Nouveau.

The building also contributes to the charm of the museum due to its unique architectural features and the large indoor space which includes a central nave and a large glass roof that helps to flood the building with natural light. Also, don't just look at the art, enjoy the architecture of the building as well. Clock lovers can also appreciate the Orsay Clocks as well. There are two to see which add to the buildings aesthetic.

The Musée d'Orsay is a must for art-lovers.
