About The Musée Rodin

The Musée Rodin in Paris is an incredibly popular museum in Paris that is dedicated to the works of one of the finest sculptors in history, that of French sculptor Auguste Rodin.

The museum is located in the Hôtel Biron, which is a beautiful 18th-century mansion which serves as an exquisite backdrop to Rodin's masterpieces. Rodin had used the hotel as a studio, which also adds to the history of the property, knowing that Rodin himself had created some of his works there.

The museum was founded in 1919 by the French government after Rodin himself had dedicated his collection of works along with the rights to reproduce them to the French government in 1916, and in return, the state turned the Hôtel Biron into the museum for all to enjoy.

Auguste Rodin, who lived from 1840–1917, is considered one of the most influential sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His innovative approach to sculpting which was characterised by its realism and emotional depth, revolutionised the art form.

Some of his most famous works are on show at the museum, which include:

  • "The Thinker,"
  • "The Kiss,"
  • "The Gates of Hell."

Given the states ownership, the museum houses a vast collection of Rodin's work which includes sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs which you can explore both indoor galleries and the charming outdoor garden known as the ‘Sculpture Garden’, which features many of Rodin's sculptures amidst beautiful landscaping.

The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions showcasing the works of other artists or exploring various aspects of sculpture and art history.
