The Musée Rodin in Paris is dedicated to the works of one of the finest sculptors in history, that of French sculptor Auguste Rodin. The museum is in the Hôtel Biron, a beautiful 18th-century mansion which serves as an exquisite backdrop to Rodin's masterpieces. Rodin used part of the hotel as his studio, which also adds to the history knowing that artist himself had created some of his works there. He started to place some of his works around the garden in 1908, so they embedded themselves in the garden in the years that followed.
The museum was founded in 1919 by the French government after Rodin had dedicated his collection of works along with the rights to reproduce them to the government in 1916, and in return, the state turned the Hôtel Biron into the museum for all to enjoy.
Auguste Rodin, who lived from 1840–1917, is considered one of the most influential sculptors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His innovative approach to sculpting was characterised by its realism and emotional depth which revolutionised the art form.
Given the states ownership, the museum has a vast collection of Rodin's work which includes sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs which you can explore both indoor galleries and the charming outdoor garden known as the ‘Sculpture Garden’, which features many of Rodin's sculptures amidst beautiful landscaping. Along with some of the pieces you can see the Rodin's thought process to creating the pieces, including plaster casts and sketches of some of the pieces, showing the process behind them.
The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions showing the works of other artists or exploring various aspects of sculpture and art history throughout the year.
