About Oceanogràfic de Valencia
The Oceanogràfic de Valencia is in the 'City of Arts and Sciences' in Valencia and is actually the largest oceanographic in Europe! You can experience the thrill of watching dolphins, seeing crocodiles, penguins, jellyfish and even sharks, oh and did we mention they also have beluga whales there!
The Oceanogràfic de Valencia is home to Europe's longest underwater tunnel in the Oceans section where you can walk through the 35 metre long tunnel which connects two different sections in the same tank, starting at the Canary Islands and ending in Bermuda! Watch as the sharks swin around you and along side as you walk along the tunnel! In the tanks you can see Angel sharks, Blacktip reef sharks, Blackchin guitarfish, Grey reef sharks, Bull rays, Nurse sharks, Port Jackson sharks, Sand tiger sharks, Sawfish, Zebra sharks, Whitetip reef sharks and others. Did we mention its quite a big tank!
The Oceanogràfic of Valencia is split into themed 'habitats' with each allowing their inhabitants to thrive. The habitats include:
- Antarctic - home to the penguins!
- Artic - home to the beluga whales! (in 2016, the Oceanogràfic was the first place in Europe to have a baby beluga born there!)
- Crocodile Preserve - in the outdoor living pond space.
- Wetlands/Aviary - a large 26-metre tall sphere which is set up to replicate two of the worlds wetlands, the American Mangrove & the Mediterranean marshlands. Inside you will find a variety of birds including herons, spoonbills, moorhens & ibis as well as reptiles including turtles, newts and others.
- Dolphinarium - the largest one in Europe and home to the beautiful Bottlenose dolphins! A major attraction.
- Temperature and Tropical - in this section you will find fish that live in warmer waters. Home to clownfish, giant crabs, eels, surgeonfish, puffer fish, snappers and many more! This tank is full of colour!
- Lakes - another outdoor lake section (separate to the crocodiles!) you can find various bird species which include swans, ducks, flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, frogs and coots.
- Mediterranean - this area is full of life and includes various species such as octopus, lobsters, fish (many species), anemone and even some more sharks!
- Jellyfish - the jellyfish zone is home to multiple species of jellyfish including barrel jellyfish, common jellyfish, flame jellyfish, fried egg jellyfish, Japanese sea nettle, Jelly blubber, Mauve stinger, moon jellyfish, pacific sea nettle and more!
- Oceans - home to the 35-metre long underwater tunnel for you to enjoy where you can spot lots of sharks!
- Mysteries of the Sea - home to a variety of species including the Atlantic horseshoe crab, big-belly seahorse, leaf-fish, longhorn cowfish, along with many others!
- Oceanic Islands - you can find lizards and tortoises in this section that is set up to replicate some of the most deserted places on earth.
