See the artistic evolution of Pablo Picasso, from his early works in 1890 to his significant later periods in 1957 and all under one roof at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona which was founded in 1963 by Jaime Sabartés, who was a close friend of Picasso. The museum was established with Picasso's blessing as he wanted his works to be accessible to the public.
The museum is in the 'El Born' neighbourhood of Barcelona and is housed in a beautiful complex of five interconnected historic buildings which create a charming labyrinthine effect that enhances its unique character.
Picasso's wife, Jacqueline, added to the museum collection in 1982 when she dedicated a collection of ceramics. The museum now boasts more than 4000 pieces and is one of the world’s largest collections of his work. The collection includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, engravings, sketches, and illustrated books, amongst other works.
The Picasso Museum is a must-visit for art enthusiasts, particularly those who admire Picasso. It holds special significance as Picasso spent several formative years in Barcelona, studying at the prestigious La Llotja art academy, where his father was also a professor.
The museum also has thousands of other pieces on show including prints, oil paintings, drawings, ceramics and photos.
