About San Francisco Zoo

San Francisco Zoo, or SF Zoo is located right opposite the Pacific Ocean! It’s one of the city's most popular attractions, and a great family day out! The zoo covers around 100 acres and is home to over 2,000 animals from more than 250 species which are split into various different areas including:

The ‘Exploration Zone’, which is home too:

As well as animals, SF Zoo also has some fun rides for you to enjoy, which include:

  • Virtual Reaity Zone - a new interactive experience that takes you to the forests of Rwanda (separate ticket required from the ticket window on site)
  • Little Puffin Miniature Steam Train - which is a great fun miniature railway (the train doesn’t operate when it’s raining for safety purposes though. Tickets are also purchased at the railway station.
  • Dentzel Carousel - an original restored Dentzel Carousel which dates back to 1921! Again, a ticket is required which can be purchased at the ride.

  • No, the SF Zoo entry ticket doesn’t include use of the attraction rides they offer, such as the miniature railway or the carousel. Tickets have to be purchased on site for those.

  • Yes! The zoo has a popular "Family Farm" area with friendly animals that kids can pet, including goats, sheep, and other barnyard animals.
