About SEA LIFE Sydney

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is one of the top attractions in the city. The aquarium is located at Darling Harbour and it offers a fascinating journey into the world of marine life, and is home to over 13,000 sea creatures from 700 species!

From sharks to stingrays, penguins to sea turtles, and dugongs to jellyfish, you can explore various habitats and learn about the group’s conservation efforts in the process.

SEA LIFE Sydney is set up over different habitats which include:

  • Penguin Exhibition: This is a fun experience where you can hop-on board the aquarium’s fun boat ride to see the penguins up close!
  • Shark Valley: Enjoy the aquarium’s huge shark tank by walking through its underwater tunnel! Look up and see the sharks gracefully gliding past you! You may also spot some stingrays in the same tank!
  • Dugong Island: Home to the aquariums’ amazing dugong, which was found as a baby and rescued. He was later released but found washed up again, so the decision was taken to give him a permanent home SEA LIFE Aquarium, where he now lives a very happy life, living in harmony with other other animals such as rays and sharks and some beautifully coloured tangs!
  • Discovery Rockpool: A special section that we love as it allows you to get a little closer and even hands on with some of the animals! In the rockpool area you can find sea stars, urchins, crabs, anemone, and possibly even some shark eggs!
  • South Coast Shipwreck: In this section which is set up like a shipwreck, you will find some incredibly cute little penguins along with seahorses, octopus and lots of colourful fish such as clownfish!
  • Sydney Harbour: A fabulous section home to lots and lots of fish of all shapes and sizes! Around 600 species can be found in this section and most are local to the Sydney Harbour area to showcase the animals that can be found locally! You can see lionfish, boxfish, old wife, and crayfish here, amongst others!
  • Jurassic Seas: In this section you will find some species that lurk in deeper waters! You can spot lungfish, eels and mudskippers here!
