The Sea to Sky Gondola is one of the most scenic attractions you can find in the area. The gondola is in Squamish, a town about an hour's drive north of Vancouver, on the Sea to Sky Highway (Highway 99).
You can enjoy spectacular views of the Howe Sound, surrounding mountains, the beautiful coastal forest, and Shannon Falls as well as the famous Stawamus Chief climbing area.
The gondola ride itself is about 10 minutes long, and climbs 885 metres (2,900 feet) above sea level, taking you from the base camp which is near Howe Sound up to the summit station.
Once at the summit, you are treated to amazing panoramic views of the Howe Sound fjord, coastal mountains, and Shannon Falls. The view alone is worth the trip!
One of the main highlights at the summit is the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge, which offers an exciting walk with beautiful views across the valley and Squamish below. The suspension bridge is around 100 metres long and has a cafe at the end where you can enjoy a drink and snack!
There are various hiking trails that cater to different skill levels. The shorter Panorama Trail offers easy access to scenic viewpoints, while more challenging hikes like the Sky Pilot Mountain Trail are available for experienced hikers.
During the winter season, you can enjoy snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and guided snowshoe tours!
The gondola operates year-round, offering different experiences for each season. Beautiful green forests in the summer and stunning snow-covered peaks in the winter!
It’s a great spot for families. The trails are well-marked, and there are interpretive signs along the way that make it a fun and educational experience for kids.
