About Taronga Zoo Sydney
Taronga Zoo is on the picturesque shores of Sydney Harbour in Mosman and is home to over 4,000 animals from around 340 different species, so it’s a great family day out.
The zoo is divided into various themed areas, each of which has a unique habitat that is designed for their inhabitants:
- African Savannah: See majestic lions, towering giraffes, and zebras. Did you know that a lion's roar can be heard over 8 kilometres away?
- Asian Rainforest: See Sumatran tigers, Asian elephants, and other exotic species in beautiful surroundings.
- Australian Walkabout: Get up close with some native Australian animals, including kangaroos, koalas, and platypuses!
- Great Southern Oceans: See the marine life exhibits which include seals, penguins, and other sea creatures.
- Shows: Watch the free-flight birds put on a special display and the Seal show where you can watch the Australian & Californian sea lions and New Zealand fur-seals and their cheeky personalities!
The zoo also offers amazing views of Sydney as well, including the Harbour Bridge & Sydney Opera House! It’s only a 12-minute ferry ride away from Sydney, making it a must-visit in Sydney, in our opinion!
