About Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree soars over the sky in Sumida. Even amongst the local skyscrapers, you can’t miss it! A very prominent landmark and a broadcasting tower located in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan.

Completed in 2012 and officially opened to the public on May 22 of the same year it stands at a towering height of 634 metres (2,080 feet), making it the tallest structure in Japan and one of the tallest towers in the world (was second only to the Burj Khalifa at the time of its construction). The Skytree is taller than ‘Tokyo Tower’, which had previously held the title for the tallest structure in Tokyo.

The tower's design was inspired by traditional Japanese architecture and incorporates elements of both modern and ancient aesthetics. Its sleek, futuristic appearance has made it an iconic symbol of Tokyo's skyline.

It primarily serves as a broadcasting tower, hosting digital television and radio transmission facilities but it also includes observation decks, restaurants, shops, and a variety of entertainment facilities, so has become a bestselling tourist attraction in Tokyo..

The tower features two observation decks which are located at different heights.

The lower deck, called Tembo Deck

Stands at 350 metres (1,150 feet) above ground level and offers panoramic views of Tokyo and its surroundings.

The higher deck, known as Tembo Galleria

Stands at 450 metres (1,476 feet) and provides visitors with an even more breathtaking view.

It has become a major tourist attraction, drawing millions of visitors each year. Its observation decks offer visitors a unique perspective of Tokyo's skyline, including landmarks such as the Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace, and Mount Fuji on clear days.

The tower features a shopping complex called "Tokyo Solamachi" at its base, which houses over 300 shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities so visitors can enjoy a wide range of shopping and dining as well as cultural attractions such as a planetarium and an aquarium.

Tokyo Skytree is illuminated by LED lights at night, creating a stunning visual spectacle against the backdrop of the Tokyo skyline. The tower's lighting changes according to the season and special occasions, making it a dynamic and captivating sight for both locals and tourists.

A must visit destination in our opinion if you are travelling to Tokyo.
