About Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree soars over the city, even amongst the other local skyscrapers, you can’t miss it! A very prominent landmark and a broadcasting tower in Sumida, Tokyo.

Completed in 2012, it stands at the towering height of 634 metres (2,080 feet), which makes it the tallest structure in Japan and one of the tallest towers in the world (second only to the Burj Khalifa at the time of its construction). The Skytree is taller than ‘Tokyo Tower’, which had previously held the title for the tallest structure in Tokyo.

The tower's design was inspired by traditional Japanese architecture and incorporates elements of both modern and ancient aesthetics. Its sleek, futuristic appearance has made it an iconic symbol of Tokyo's skyline.

The tower primarily serves as a broadcasting tower, hosting digital television and radio transmission facilities but it also includes two observation decks, restaurants, shops, and a variety of entertainment facilities, so has become a very popular tourist attraction in the city.

The towers two observation decks are located at different heights:

  • The lower deck, called 'Tembo Deck': Stands at 350 metres (1,150 feet) above ground level and offers panoramic views of Tokyo and its surroundings.
  • The higher deck, known as 'Tembo Galleria': Stands at 450 metres (1,476 feet) and provides an even more amazing view because its a little higher.

Its observation decks offer a unique perspective of Tokyo's skyline, including landmarks such as the Tokyo Tower, the Imperial Palace, and Mount Fuji on clear days.

The tower also has a shopping complex called "Tokyo Solamachi" at its base, which has over 300 shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities so you can enjoy a wide range of shopping and dining as well as cultural attractions such as a planetarium and an aquarium.

The tower is illuminated by LED lights at night which create a beautiful visual spectacle against the backdrop of the Tokyo skyline. The tower's lighting changes according to the season and special occasions, making it a dynamic and captivating sight.

A must visit destination in our opinion if you are travelling to Tokyo.
