Barcelona Cable Cars - Tickets and Information

There are three main cable car systems in Barcelona. We will clearly identify each one for you, to ensure you know which one you want:
- Telefèrico de Montjuïc - The Cable Car that goes up Montjuïc Hill (Montjuïc Cable Car)
- Transbordador Aeri del Port - The Cable Car that starts at Barceloneta Beach.
- Montserrat Cable Car - The Cable Car that takes you up and down Montserrat Mountain
BARCELONA CABLE CAR 1
- This is the 'Telefèrico de Montjuïc'. We will call it the 'Montjuïc Cable Car'.
- Montjuïc Cable Car Operating Hours: Daily: 10:00 - 21:00
Where does it go
- The Montjuïc Cable Car links Barcelona with Montjuïc hill and the other attractions on Montjuïc hill such as the castle!
- The trip up the hill starts at 'Parc de Montjuïc' and ends at 'Castell de Montjuïc'.
- The trip down starts at 'Castell de Montjuïc' but it also stops at 'Mirador de l’Alcalde' on the way down. At the 'Mirador de l'Alcalde' stop you can get off the cable car and enjoy 'Miramar Costa i Llobera', 'Cinto Verdaguer' and 'Joan Brossa gardens', which offer some of the best views of Barcelona.
How to get to the Montjuïc Cable Car
There are a couple of opitons to get to the Montjuïc Cable Car station:
- The Funicular Option. Take a quick funicular (separate ticket) from Paral·lel metro station to Parc de Montjuïc. Then swap and get on the cable car to enjoy the 750-metre trip to the top of Montjuïc hill.
- The Barceloneta Beach Cable Car Option: Take the other Barcelona cable car up from Barceloneta Beach (details of the other Barcelona cable car below) to the station and walk across to the Montjuïc Cable Car Station. Its not far and well signposted.
- The Barcelona Hop-on Hop-off Bus Option: You can also use the Barcelona Hop-on Hop-off Bus and one of its stops (on the Red Route) is the Montjuïc Cable Car Station!
What you will see on the Montjuïc Cable Car
- On the 5-minute trip you can enjoy the views of Barcelona including the Sagrada Familia.
- Parc de Montjuïc stop - 'Fundació Joan Miró Museum' the 'Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya' & 'Poble Espanyol' and the Olympic Ring are all on this level.
- Castell de Montjuïc stop - the Castle and Botanical Gardens are at this stop.
- Mirador de l'Alcalde stop - this stop can only be accessed on the downward journey and it gives access to the Montjuïc green zones and some excellent vantage points of the city including the Miramar Gardens and the Mossen Costa i Llobera Gardens.
What you will see when you reach the top of the Montjuïc cable car and Montjuïc hill at the Castle Stop
When you reach the top you arrive at Montjuïc Castle (Castell de Montjuïc), the incredible 17th century fortress and prison, which also offers amazing views of the city.
From here you can enjoy the views of the city inclusing the Sagrada Familia (fun fact: Gaudi designed the Sagrada Familia to be 170 meters tall on purpose so it will be 1 meter lower than Montjuïc, as Barcelona's highest point, as he believed man's work shouldn't surpass God's!). BARCELONA CABLE CAR 2
- This is the "Transbordador Aeri del Port" but we will call it the 'Barceloneta Beach Cable Car'.
- Barceloneta Beach Cable Car Operating Hours: Daily: 10:30 - 19:00
Where Does It Go
- The Barcelona Beach Cable Car is around 10-minutes and starts from just off Barceloneta Beach. This cable car doesn't have seats, so its standing only.
- The journey is less than a mile and it also stops on the way at the 'Torre del Jaume I' (the mid-point tower), where you can stop for lunch.
- The upward journey ends at 'Estacion de Miramax' on Montjuïc hill. Visitors can enjoy the area which offers multiple activities such as Poble Espanyol (tickets required - click here for details) or the Botanical Gardens. If you are using the Barceloneta Beach Cable Car to access to the 'Montjuïc Cable Car', then the Montjuïc Cable Car is just a few minutes walk and is clearly signposted.
How To Get To Barceloneta Beach Cable Car Station
- Via metro: Line 4 to Barceloneta Beach (and then a short walk)
- Hop-on Hop-off Bus: to Museu D'Historia de Catalunya (and then a short walk)
- Barceloneta Beach Cable Car: Entry Point
What You Will See on The Barceloneta Beach Cable Car Ride
- You can enjoy incredible birds-eye views of the city during the journey.
BARCELONA CABLE CAR 3
- The 'Funicular Aeri de Montserrat' but we will call it the Montserrat Cable Car as that is where it goes!
- Montserrat Cable Car Operating Hours: Daily: 09:30 - 19:00
Where does the Montserrat Cable Car Go
- The Montserrat Cable Car starts at 'Funicular Aeri de Montserrat' at the bottom of Montserrat Mountain, which is around 50KM outside of Barcelona city centre.
What you will see on the Montserrat Cable Car Journey
- The Montserrat Cable Car takes you up Montserrat where you can enjoy the views of the surrounding area.
- You will find the Montserrat Monastery, Basilica & Abbey at the top of the Cable Car.
- There is also a Natural Park that visitors can explore.
