The Bioparco di Roma has been open for over a century now, having opened in 1908! Like many modern European zoos, it has transformed over the years from just a zoo with exotic animals into a place where you can learn about the animals and their natural habitats and also about the conservation programs they are involved in.
The zoo is home to over 1,000 animals from more than 200 species, ranging from big cats and primates to birds and penguins! The park has meticulously designed the animals habitats to mimic their natural environments to ensure they can thrive and live comfortably at the zoo. You know this works when the animals start to have babies as it means they feel comfortable. Bioparco di Roma has welcomed many babied over the years, but most recently a Sumatran tiger and a rare Grevy's zebra were both born at the zoo, which is amazing.
Some of the zoo's most popular animal habitats include:
You can stroll along the paths and get close to the various residents, including hippos, giraffes, tigers, bears, leopards, snakes, birds, and monkeys, among others.
The animals at the park showcase the planet's incredible biodiversity, reminding us of our duty to act as responsible stewards of the environment.
