About Qasr Al Watan Palace

Qasr Al Watan Palace is the presidential palace of Abu Dhabi. The building serves not only as a functioning government building but also as a cultural landmark and a museum that offers a deep insight into the rich heritage and history of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The palace was only completed in 2017, so it is modern. It was then opened to the public in 2019 and it has quickly become one of the most popular attractions in the region.

Qasr Al Watan's architecture reflects traditional Arabian design which has then been blended with contemporary elements, giving it the modern aspect with a traditional feel. The exterior is white granite and limestone, which symbolises purity and peace and the building also features intricate details that are  inspired by Islamic geometrical patterns. The palace's dome is one of the largest in the world adding more grandeur to the building.

As you enter the palace, you are greeted by the famous Great Hall, which is the centrepiece of the property. Quite simply, the hall is massive! The ceiling soars 37 metres high and is covered with intricate mosaics, beautiful chandeliers, and the 12-ton central dome!

Qasr Al Watan also offers a variety of exhibitions for you to enjoy on your visit which offer insights into the UAE’s governance, culture, and history:

  • The House of Knowledge: The exhibit showcases the contributions of Arab scholars to various fields such as science, mathematics, astronomy, and literature. Ancient manuscripts and artefacts are on display that illustrate the intellectual legacy of the region.
  • Presidential Gifts Collection: You can explore a collection of gifts presented to the UAE by other nations, which offer a glimpse into the diplomatic relationships and cultural exchanges between the UAE and the rest of the world.
  • The Spirit of Collaboration: This room is where the Federal Supreme Council meetings are held. It also hosts official summits and events. The chamber is designed to reflect the UAE’s commitment to collaboration and unity, both within the country and in its international relations.

Palace Light and Sound Show

If you visit in the evening you can enjoy a spectacular light and sound show called "Palace in Motion." The show uses the palace’s façade as a canvas and narrates the story of the UAE’s past, present, and future through amazing visuals and immersive sound.

Gardens and Surroundings

The palace is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens that are perfect for a leisurely walk. They feature water fountains, sculptures, and seating areas where you can sit, relax and take in your surroundings.

Qasr Al Watan is more than just a palace; it shows the UAE’s rich heritage and forward-looking vision. It’s a great place to visit to soak in their culture.
