About The National Aquarium of Abu Dhabi
The National Aquarium in Abu Dhabi is one of the largest aquariums in the Middle East and offers an extraordinary experience with over 300 species on show and exhibits that will entertain and amaze all ages! The aquarium is located at the Al Qana waterfront and it’s been designed to not only entertain but also to inspire awareness of marine conservation.
The aquarium is spread over 10 different themed zones and spans 9,000 square metres that house 46,000 animals from over 300 different species from around the globe! With interactive exhibits and underwater tunnels, it’s an ideal place for a great day out!
Zones and Exhibits
The aquarium is divided into 10 unique zones, each focusing on a different habitat or aspect of marine life:
- UAE’s Natural Treasures: The section is home to the native marine life of the UAE, including mangroves and reef habitats.
- Red Sea Wreck: Here, you can explore marine life found around shipwrecks.
- Atlantic Cave: This section mimics the deep caves of the Atlantic and the zone is home to species adapted to darker, cavernous environments from the deeper waters.
- The Amazon Flooded Forest: A replica of the Amazon Rainforest, where you can find tropical fish, exotic birds, and even a caiman!
- The Sub: A submarine-themed exhibit where you can learn about deep-sea exploration!
- Ring of Fire: Based on the waters around the Pacific Ocean which also happens to be home to the longest chain of volcanoes, see the colourful fish that live in these waters!
- Aqua Magic: See how animals adapt to living in water and overcoming various challenges the changing environments cause to their homes.
- Frozen Ocean: See how important wildlife is in the most northern part of the world! See how they survive in the temperatures!
- Bu Tinah Island: Delve into the island life from the incredible islands of the coast of the UAE! Home to impressive mangroves, shallow waters and a vast array of marine life!
Marine Life
Amongst other animals, The National Aquarium is home to sharks, rays, turtles, jellyfish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and even manatee, amongst others! Famous residents include a ‘Super Snake’, which is one of the largest reticulated pythons in the world! You can also see friendly rays in the interactive touch pool - a firm favourite!
Interactive Experiences at the Aquarium
- Glass-bottom Boat Rides: You can see marine life beneath the boat as you glide over the aquarium in a glass-bottom boat!
