About Zoo Miami
The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens, or 'Zoo Miami' for short, is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida and the only subtropical zoo in the continental United States!
The zoo covers over 750 acres and is home to more than 3,000 animals from over 500 species, including:
- Elephants
- Gazelle’s
- Antelope
- Big Cats (Lions, Leopard, Panther, Jaguars, Tigers and more!)
- Camels!
- Monkeys & Gorilla’s
- Rhinos, and many more!
The zoo is set up in different sections which include:
Amazon and Beyond
- This section is home to animals from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America including jaguars, anacondas, giant river otters, and a variety of tropical birds.
Florida: Mission Everglades
- This section is home to some of Florida's native wildlife and includes American alligators, Florida panthers, and Giant River Otters! Visitors can also take an airboat ride to experience the Everglades ecosystem!
Wings of Asia
- This section is a great free-flight aviary that houses over 300 birds from across Asia. It’s a must-visit section for bird enthusiasts who want to see species like the beautiful Green Peafowl, hornbills, and the critically endangered Edward's pheasant.
Africa Loop
- This large section of the zoo is home to African elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and rhinoceroses. The loop provides an immersive experience with exhibits designed to mimic the animals' natural habitats.
Critter Connection
- The Wacky Barn in Critter Connection is one of our favourite sections of the zoo as it's home to some friendly farmyard animals that you can get a little closer too! We love petting zoos. It’s home to pigs, goats, peonies and more that you can pat, touch and stroke!
Other Animal Encounters
- You can get up close and personal with some of the zoo’s other residents with opportunities to feed giraffes, parrots, and even the rhinos! Now that’s a fun experience! Just ask at reception on arrival for further details.
Zoo Miami offers a great experience for visitors of all ages in a beautifully designed tropical setting. Whether you’re an animal lover, a family with kids, or just looking for an enjoyable day out, Zoo Miami is a great destination in South Florida.
